And then there is Sam. I know there is only one- and I am grateful for this one. He doesn't exactly like having his picts taken and he is even smiling in this one. His teeth have been gone for over a year now and he doesn't know what to do with his smile. Even when I tell him I LOVE his toothless grin- he won't, can't and refuses to photograph his smile. BUT I must have said something REALLY funny to pull this from him.

So, this was my first shot at photographing newborns, and she was absolutely THE best baby- I should know..I have 6- and this little one let me pose her in any curly I could think of. I also got my first "real" yellow dart. Too funny. Mom and I were just chatting and we look over to see this rocket ship looking dart of yellow spray out from her and shoot across the room. TOO too funny! Don't worry...this is why I have the industrial size washer machines. Thank you again Ev for allowing me to photograph this perfect little one. ;)

So what do you do when all the chores are done, laundry folded, kids have all been entertained?...PLAY!
Of course, on a whim and flying by the seat of my pants (as always) we headed out to try to find soft light at noon FULL DAY SUN. Gotta love the most dingy dirty places that shoot the best.
I was also paranoid that the other kids (who were only 5 feet away from me in an air conditioned car rocking to halloween favorites in July) were going to put the car in motion..so, we only got a few photos.
We managed to have no accidents, thank goodness, and I did get a few great ones.
Thank you to these two (who are always together as you may have noticed in previous posts) who are sooo willing to let me play.

So I have a ton of people who always ask me, why does it take a few weeks to get my pictures back. Can't you just take them from the camera and put them on a cd and give them to me? I am about to show you the difference of a straight out of the camera shot vs. one that has been edited..
I have to say though that I have heard it said, "You cannot polish a turd". So, you must have an excellent original to work with first. Lighting and exposure has EVERYTHING to having a great original.

Thanks to my very good friend Rachel Johnson with Luminosity Photography, I have used her EXCELLENT SOOC to show you before and after with editing. Rachel really is a fantastic photographer and I really haven't met a nicer, kinder person. She is great to work with. With that said, here you go!

The Color Edited Version

Brightening, contrast, dodging, burning, levels, curves and an adjustment layer that takes out the magenta in the neutrals, followed by a Gold filter..VOLA!

Here is the edited black and white version

I just have to say it about Maine..or at least the 5th grade girls of Lincoln Elementary..WHY? Mekell has got a different style than every girl at her school. This is ok right? Ok..this shoot was hillarious and extremely difficult..I worked up a major sweat! Why is it when you photograph your own children, they just refuse to cooperate? :)
Loved the look on Rylan's face..this is exactly the look he gives when he hears Rhett's voice..it means, watch out- here comes my brother and I'll probably get a finger in the eye, nose or ears. Watch out Rhett- cuz when this little guy gets a bit bigger, you'll get yours! More picts to come..will have to be when I can edit them while they all sleep. I can't believe that time has gone by soo fast and that Rylan aka Rino is now 2 months old. He is changing and we are loving watching his personality come out. He is trying to speak and it is absolutely adorable. I will tell you that his nightly routine is still off. He sleeps all day and then wants to talk all night. Doesn't help that he has some refulx and that is really hard on me..especially since there are 5 others to take care of in the morning. So blessed to have Britton who helps out a TON! Love this boy!

For some my photography might be too made up and not raw. Basically, I am SOO not a straight out of the camera type of artist. Really, every print or every picture I take has to be perfect and reflect my artistry. I believe in bright full colors, depth and texture. I don't like the "traditional" shots. I try to tell my clients to dress fun and colorful. To be creative. The old black and white shirts or white shirts and jeans..NOT FOR ME!
I am soo glad Imena has her own style and from her dress I can tell she is artistic herself. This is exactly the way I tell my clients that their photos are going to turn out. This is my passion and I am soo fortunate to create beautiful things.

School is next week and we decided it was time to get school pictures out of the way. I had told them all to get ready and use the bathroom before hand. Wouldn't you know, "S" decided to not obey and when we got there guess what he had to do and guess where there was nowhere to go? Frustration at it's best. So..we LOVE the look on his face of anxiety! Little "M" decided that this was just not her thing and gave up quite quickly. I have a natural for big "M"..didn't even have to pose her.
Needless to say, done in 15 min tops and we made it back for Mr. "S" and his bathroom break! HE HE!!

Had a great time taking picts of "M". So, I'd never been to this place before and honestly I was really skeptical on where to shoot. There was alot of Green but no colors and you all know me..LOVE lots and LOTS of colors. But, given that everything was really quite masculine..this worked out great. This family was seriously a blast to work with. So open to any ideas that I had for the shoot. Despite the bugs and wet grassland..they were troopers.
I came home with welts all over my legs from bites, but got the shots and it was worth it! Thanks guys for making this easy-
